CRIMES IN ITALY

Italian constitution, and therefore our laws, guarantee us the freedom to do what we want until we don't damage the freedom of another person .
In Italy the crimes which are sentenced more severely are murders.
The penalty for these offenses is life imprisonment which can be of two types: the normal one and the impediment.
The first grants the offender the opportunity to benefit permits, bonus and probation.
The second, however, denies the benefit of every prison inmate unless he is a collaborator of justice.

The first grants the offender the opportunity to benefit permits, bonus and probation.
The second, however, denies the benefit of every prison inmate unless he is a collaborator of justice.
In other kinds of crime (theft, scam, damage, ecc.) there could be a penal compensation (emprisonement for a period of time, from 1 week to 10 years for the most violent behavior) or a legal compensation (payment, social services, ecc.), depending on the severity of the crime.
In no case Death Penalty can be applied; it has been abolished in our country since 1889 (with a little parentesis between 1930 and 1947, due to fascist governement)
The situation of Italian prisons is explosive. Overcrowding, trampled rights, suicides, huge costs. The first thing to say is that the majority of prisons are places of torture, as they are now.The present number of inmates in prisons is often twice the structures capacity, which actually makes life conditions impossible; prisoners are forced to live in groups of 5 in cells no larger than 12 square meters. Even sanitary conditions are poor: what should be the bathroom, is not separate from the rest of the cell. In our prisons you can't do anything: you can't read a book 'cause there aren't libraries, you don't learn a work because it's "unfair competition" with the other producers. Prison does not offer a serious approach to revising the harm done or imagining a different life, often because those processes would be too expansive.

Authority figures serving citizens are the Police
and Carabinieri, that keep the town safe and are available whenever you need them; other important figures of power in law are the judiciary, lawyers, prosecutors, judges, that, together, help to enforce, in the courts, the laws of our country.
At school, the figures of authorities are the teachers and the headmaster. Some of them have great authority and others have less authority.
