Women in India

The position of women in India declined a lot in the medieval period but because of some reformers who took the initiative the position of the women in society was uplifted. Now in the urban areas of India women are properly educated and sent to school and are given the same status as of a man. There is almost no discrimination on the basis of gender. There are seats reserved for women in every government office and about 33% in the parliament of India. Women are helped everywhere they go in India and if they are in their maternity period whole family helps her and takes care of her. Earlier people in India used to live in a joint family so the family members would help women in making her career by taking care of their children but these days we don’t live in a joint family so it is difficult for women to leave the house when her child is young but special types of privileges like day boarding school and day care centre help a mother to freely concentrate on her work rather than taking tension about her child. However, most of the offices provide women with maternity leaves. These days women has excelled in every sphere of life like if u see in sports there is Saina Nehwal (Badminton), Sania Mirza (tennis), PT Usha (a great athlete) and in the field of culture like Lata Mangeshkar (amazing singer), Asha Bhosle (a singer). In the field of politics we can say, our current President Mrs. Pratibha Patil and Delhi’s current chief minister- Mrs. Sheila Dixit.
